Pay only for what you need.

Finland has about 9 million mobile subscriptions, and fast 5G (100 Mbit/s) is available to 93 percent of households. A smartphone subscription uses a median of only 8 GB of data a month, so many people pay for speed and data they do not need.

Frequently asked questions: Subscription Radar

How much internet speed do I need?

According to Netflix, one 4K stream requires at least 15 Mbit/s and Full HD 5 Mbit/s. When you add up the simultaneous uses in the household and add some headroom, 100–300 Mbit/s is enough for most households. The Subscription Radar speed calculator does the sum for you.

How much mobile data does a typical user consume?

According to Traficom, a smartphone subscription used on average 30 GB per month in autumn 2025, but the median was only 8 GB. So half of users would manage with less than 10 GB of data.

Is 5G available at my home?

Fast 5G (100 Mbit/s) was available on 30.6.2026 to 93% of households, but to only 20% of the land area. In sparsely populated areas and at a cottage it is worth checking the operator's coverage map and trying the connection on site.

Fibre, 5G home broadband or 4G?

Fibre is usually the most stable and fastest if it is already in the building. A 5G home broadband connection is a good alternative when coverage is good, and 4G is enough for light use and a cottage. Indoor speed depends on the wall materials and the distance to the mast.

Tips

How to use the information

  1. Check your data usage for the previous months in your phone's settings before choosing a subscription. The median user consumes about 8 GB a month.
  2. A speed of 100–300 Mbit/s is often enough for home broadband. A faster connection mainly benefits large file transfers and simultaneous use by several people.
  3. If the house already has fibre, it is usually the most stable option. Otherwise, a 5G home broadband connection should be tested inside your home before signing a long contract.
  4. Check the contract's fixed term and notice period before changing your subscription. A campaign price may rise after the fixed term.
  5. You can subscribe to streaming services in turn: keep open only the service you are currently watching.
