Frequently asked questions: Date Radar

What to do on a cheap date in Helsinki?

Helsinki City Museum (Aleksanterinkatu 16) is always free, and HAM is free of charge on the last Friday of the month from 11:00 to 19:00. The free Lux Helsinki light festival is on 30.12.2026–6.1.2027 in winter.

How much does the Museum Card cost?

The Museum Card costs 86 € for 12 months and gives access to over 360 museums (museot.fi, autumn 2026). Renewal costs 79 €, and the card can also be paid with a monthly fee of 7,45 €.

When are the light festivals in 2026–2027?

The Tampere Light Festival (Valoviikot) runs 23.10.–1.11.2026, in the evenings from 18 to 21, and Lux Helsinki runs 30.12.2026–6.1.2027. Both are free outdoor events.

When do the Christmas markets open in 2026?

The Tampere Christmas Market is at Keskustori 21.11.–22.12.2026, with the official opening on 28.11. Helsinki's Tuomaan markkinat (St Thomas Market) is at Senate Square 27.11.–22.12.2026, and admission to both is free.

Can two people go to a public sauna?

Yes. For example, a party of two is welcome at the Helsinki Kulttuurisauna (€17), but evening sessions must be booked in advance and payment is by card only. At the Rajaportti sauna in Tampere, a single entry costs €8 (autumn 2026).

How much does a cinema ticket cost?

The average cinema ticket price in 2025 was 13,60 €, so a cinema evening for two costs about 27 € in tickets (Finnish Cinema Association). There were 188 cinemas and 6,3 million visits.

How much does Löyly sauna cost?

Löyly's public sauna costs 29 € for two hours, and the price includes a towel. An extra hour costs 12 € (loylyhelsinki.fi, 10/2026).

What free things can you do on a date?

For example, the Helsinki City Museum is always free, HAM can be entered free of charge on the last Friday of the month from 11 to 19, and national parks, light festivals and Christmas markets are free to enter. Helsinki's Sompasauna is also free.

Can you pay for a date with the culture benefit?

Partly. The employer's tax-exempt exercise and cultural benefit (up to €400 a year) can be used, for example, for museums, theatre, concerts and cinema, but not for restaurants. The benefit is personal, so each person pays with their own benefit.

When does Turku's WAM open?

Wäinö Aaltonen Museum WAM opens to the public on 31.10.2026, and the opening weekend is 31.10.–1.11.2026.

Is the Museum Card worth it for a couple?

If you visit museums often, probably. The card costs €86 (renewal €79) and is personal. For example, standard tickets to HAM (€20), Vapriikki (€16) and Turku Art Museum (€15) add up to €51, so the card pays for itself after about five such visits.

Tips
